Requiem for a Dollin memoriam Josh Ryan Evansby Steven Clark Timmy, a character on the NBC daytime soap opera, "Passions," is a diminutive doll brought to life by magic. In July 2002, an episode was filmed where Timmy dies, heroically saving the people he loves from an evil zombie demon. On August 5th, 2002, the very day the episode was aired, Josh Ryan Evans - the actor who plays Timmy - died at the age of 20. This piece was composed and recorded in one day as part of the Immersion Composition Society. (OK, I polished the orchestration a bit on the next day). It was be premiered at an art show dedicated to Timmy at the Glama-Rama salon (417 South Van Ness) in San Francisco on October 27th, 2002.
In 2005, my friend Professer Nathaniel Lew commissioned me to re-write the piece as a
complete Requiem Mass for choir and organ, and it was performed by the choir he conducts at St. Michael's College in Vermont.
You can hear that version here.
TIMMY: Timmy has to save Charity. And destroy the zombie. He'd do anything to save Charity. Even die if he has to!
ZOMBIE CHARITY: Let evil reign forever more TIMMY: Nooooooooooo ZOMBIE CHARITY:You die! CHARITY: Timmy, you saved my life! ZOMBIE CHARITY: Damn that little imp! Damn you, Charity! Damn you, Timmy! Damn you to hell! damn all the people of Harmony to Hell! AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
TABITHA: I told you being a real boy wasn't all it was cracked up to be. If you were still a doll now I could sew you back up. I could fix you. But there's nothing I can do to fix you now. So I'm going to call upon the forces I know. TIMMY: Not the dark side, Princess. TABITHA: You better bloody believe it. Ooooo Beelzebub and Lucifer, your humble servant Tabitha calls upon you. I ask you to save my precious Timmy. Take me if you must but save my little lad! Oh Timmy, oh Timmy, Timmy! Nurse, nurse, nurse! Timmy can't breathe!
TIMMY: Please don't call on the dark forces to save Timmy. Timmy is going to die.
TIMMY: From now on, Timmy will make sure his Tabby is ok. TABITHA: Timmy, Timmy you're disappearing! TIMMY: It's ok, Timmy's being called home, and Timmy has to go home. Timmy will always love his Princess. Timmy will always love Tabby. TABITHA: Timmy, Timmy, Timmy don't leave me! Timmy, come back, come back...
TIMMY: Timmy's going to be a very special angel? ANGEL: That's right, a guardian angel. You're getting your wings!
